Big news if you're a VDOT employee with your PMP certification and it's time for you to "Recertify" that credential with Project Management Institute (PMI) authorized Professional Development Units, also known as "PDUs"
VDOT’s eLearning and online books provider, Skillsoft, has partnered with the Project Management Institute (PMI) to provide unlimited free access to hundreds of PMI-accredited courses, so you can rest assured that taking those designated courses will apply credits toward your PMP recertification. Finding courses you're interested in is as easy as 1-2-3!
Step 2: Go to the "Resources" drop-down menu and select "Skillsoft PMI Authorized Training" as shown above
Step 3: You’ll be redirected to a page with a link to currently available PMI-authorized courses to choose from
What kind of courses and how many PDUs are we talking about here? The list includes a broad array of PMI-authorized courses, most of which provide .5 PDU, but they range from .25 PDU all the way up to 2.0 PDU credits. Topics could be relevant to just about any area of development a VDOT employee cares to work on, including everything from enhancing your Emotional Intelligence, to Time Management, to Leadership and Communication.
Then again, many VDOT employees are super busy these days, and need to keep their eye on the ball. So approximately 30 of the courses listed focus on precise elements of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). Those tend to take a little longer to complete (60 minutes or more) but tend to provide 1.0 or 1.5 PDU credits. Examples include:
Since courses are self-service access and are entirely self-paced, you can launch a course, pause it if needed, and finish whenever it is convenient for you. Your transcript acts as certification to PMI of your accomplishment but you can also produce a "custom certificate" at the completion of each course, to help document your achievement on their path to recertification. Here's an example of what that looks like:
NOTE: While these courses may "officially count" for PMP recertification PDUs, you do not need a PMP or be up against the every-three-years "recertification" requirement to benefit from these courses: they are accessible to each and every employee at VDOT!
As an added bonus, back in March the VDOT University Virtual Campus login page was updated to simplify access. The page still lets you log in with your e-mail address and Virtual Campus password, but also includes a button titled “SSO Login for Employees” that uses OKTA to reduce barriers to access, and it works with Chrome or Edge from the network. Simply click this button to login automatically.
