Virtual Library Card

The library’s “Virtual Library Card” helps VDOT employees access collections and services remotely. The bar graph below (left) shows cardholder growth during the past five quarters. This quarter 63 patrons separated from VDOT and 94 new cardholders were added, for a net gain of 31 accounts. The pie chart (right) shows VLC growth this quarter, including how new accounts were created:

New Cards from Onboarding (91): The library gets new data from Human Resources and staffers create new accounts and send a “welcome” e-mail to these new VDOT employees. 
New Cards from Self-Registration (3): Some VDOT employees register themselves online. Library staff verify identities, activate those accounts, and send a welcome message and support materials.
New Cards from "Other" Requests (0): These cards are created for walk-in patrons (when the library is not closed) or patrons who submitted an e-mail or online request.

This quarter Rebecca Ernest did onboarding, which includes creating accounts for new VDOT personnel and sending an e-mail “welcome package” with links to: an instructional video, access subscriptions from off the VDOT network, login instructions, and how to get help. Onboarding activity was strong (with 91 accounts created for new VDOT employees) but there was a lot of "offboarding" (we removed 63 accounts of departed patrons) done by Barb Neyman, resulting in a net gain of 31 accounts.
