Virginia Roads is a one-stop portal for mapping applications and geospatial datasets related to Virginia Roads and infrastructure.
The Virginia Roads Open Data Portal — developed in 2014 to provide user-friendly access to all of the Virginia Department of Transportation's map products and ensure public transparency — has been enhanced!
The Portal was created using ESRI's ArcGIS Online, which helps leverage existing VDOT geographic and cartographic data and make it accessible to the public. ArcGIS Online is a collaborative, cloud-based platform for using, creating, and sharing maps, applications, and data. For more information go to: https://www.esri.com/
The improved Virginia Roads pulls together all kinds of VDOT project information in one place for a general public audience, to assist citizens, elected officials, local government partners and others in getting current information quickly and in an easy-to-understand format.
The Portal and all its contents are freely accessible to anyone with an Internet-connected device. There is no need to register in order to take advantage of the data, links and "applications" on the Portal. That includes 22 Spatial Datasets covering everything from projects in the Six Year Improvement Plan, to Virginia Crashes, to Snow Plow Maps.
Advanced users, developers and researchers may want to take advantage of datasets (free for download) or APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), which make it easier for developers to leverage data VDOT makes available through the Portal.
