VDOT EMPLOYEE ACCESS: We exist primarily to serve the needs of VDOT employees. Visitors must present a VDOT ID to enter Shelburne Hall (our location). Our collections are open for browsing and library staff are on hand to help employees during normal business hours. If you have a complex research need we recommend you consult with us before your visit.
UVA COMMUNITY ACCESS: As part of a 1948 joint agreement with UVA we provide library access and some services to UVA students, faculty and staff. Many UVA students work as graduate research assistants at VTRC and have VDOT ID badges. If you are a member of the UVA community and wish to utilize the library (but do not have a VDOT ID) please schedule a visit in advance using the details above or an online request form.
PUBLIC ACCESS: Non-VDOT employees are asked to schedule all visits in advance. We do not loan materials to visiting researchers, but we do allow in-person access to our collections and subscription databases. Public users may make up to 25 photocopies at no charge, with assistance from library staff.
INTERLIBRARY LENDING: Non-affiliated researchers may be best served by asking their local public library to place an Interlibrary Loan request for an item from our collection instead of visiting us to use the item in person. Our OCLC lending symbol is TDG, however, we will gladly consider any loan requests from a non-OCLC library. Please use this form: Non-OCLC ILL Request Form.
