ASTM Compass now offers access to the 2017 LRFD Bridge Design Specifications (8th Ed.)

AASHTO's 1,781 page "bible" of bridge design, evaluation and rehabilitation is now available as a pdf in ASTM Compass. The html version should be added in 2-4 weeks.

The 8th edition (2017) of AASHTO's LRFD Bridge Design Specifications is here, and the VDOT Research Library is proud to announce its availability "free" as an online resource to VDOT employees through the amazing ASTM Compass database. Currently it is only available as a large pdf file, but in the coming weeks the "browseable" html version will become available.

The AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, 8th Edition is intended for use in the design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of bridges, and are mandated by the Federal Highway Administration for use on all bridges using federal funding.  The design provisions of these specifications employ the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) methodology. The factors have been developed from the theory of reliability based on current statistical knowledge of loads and structural performance. Methods of analysis other than those included in previous specifications and the modeling techniques inherent in them are included, and their use is encouraged.

The new edition includes a reorganization of Chapter 5: Concrete Structures and starting with this edition Interim Specifications will no longer be issued. Instead, changes balloted and approved by at least two-thirds of the members of the Subcommittee will be published in the next full edition of the Specifications, to be published on a three-year cycle by AASHTO members.
