Access your favorite Knovel resources anytime, anywhere...online or offline!

Did Santa bring you a new tablet this Christmas? Why not try the new Knovel App.

My Knovel ToGo is a free mobile app that gives Knovel subscribers the ability to download up to 10 Knovel reference books per month, including offline access once the content is downloaded.

Use it to catch up on a new project while traveling, consult critical guidelines at a worksite, and have trusted, verified technical data right at your fingertips - anytime, anywhere.

Using the App

The app enables you to sync and download any references you've added to the "My Knovel ToGo" folder when you use the Knovel website. You can also search for and add references directly from your tablet. The downloaded titles are then accessible offline for up to 30 days at a time, without reconnecting to Knovel.

Ever wonder what new books have come in to the VDOT Library?

Our Web site has a cool new feature to help you find out. Each quarter going forward we'll produce a list of "selected new publications" we've received in recent months. Using the "WHAT'S NEW" LIST is super easy for busy VDOT employees.

1. Scroll to the category you're interested in, like Bicycles & Pedestrians shown above.

2. If you see an item of interest click either the "Ship to me" or "Hold for me" radio button.

3. At the bottom of the list type in your VDOT email address (and an optional note) and hit "Submit"

Done!

Bonus for mobile users:  If you're on a mobile device simply text the word "new" (omit quote marks!) to: 434-363-4736  Our auto-response system will text back a link to the latest "What's New" list!

The VDOT Research Library has a new Web site: http://library.virginiadot.org/home

Please update your bookmarks and share the URL with friends, peers and anyone interested in transportation research.

The site has many exiting features, including: An A-Z Resource List, Live Chat, FAQ, online forms, and will soon include Research Guides.

Unlike our old site (accessible only to employees on the network and now redirecting from http://vdotlibrary) you can access the new site from any connected device and it is mobile friendly.

We believe the new site will increase our visibility and expand access to resources, but our mission has not changed. Library collections & services remain focused on VDOT employees, and full-text resources will continue to work automatically from the network. However, now you can now Connect Remotely to those subscriptions from home or any mobile device using your Virtual Library Card.

Tip: Forward this message to your home e-mail and load onto your Smartphone!

Please explore, promote, and tell us what you think!

Oversize images of the Chrome and Firefox logos.

Hey VDOT Employees:

I recently found out VITA will quickly install the latest version of Chrome or Firefox on your VDOT computer.  Turns out all you have to do is ask!

I never realized how much more productive I could be with a second browser option—especially one that has a “save passwords” feature.  What a lifesaver!

Curious?  Follow these instructions: http://virginiadot.libanswers.com/faq/115740 or get in touch with me and I'll walk you through the process.

Images shows a screen capture of the ASTM Compass database with a red arrow pointing to the "Save Search" feature.

I just found out about a great enhancement to VDOT’s ASTM Compass subscription, namely the ability to save searches.  See the Nov. issue of their eNewsletter for details.

This latest enhancement joins existing features like: track revisions, bookmark, annotate, upload/attach documents, and share with a “group” of friends at VDOT.

If you work at VDOT and use standards from ASTM or AASHTO, or any publications produced by those key publishers you’ll want to give ASTM Compass a try!  More than 300 of your peers at VDOT have used their free accounts to download more than 14,000 standards.

Compass gives you full-text access to more than 10,000 ASTM Standards, the complete ASTM Digital Library (48,000+ papers) and 17 core AASHTO publications, including “Standard Specifications for Transportation Materials and Methods of Sampling and Testing and AASHTO Provisional Standards.”
