Bike Month Guide Screen Shot

This new guide has links to lots of great resources to help VDOT celebrate National Bike Month 2017

May is National Bike Month 2017! Check out the Library’s latest guide to National Bike Month 2017 for tons of bike-focused VDOT resources, VTRC Research, and information on local events happening throughout the month and across the Commonwealth.

Here you can also get info on how to register and participate in National Bike to Work Day (May 19th) and National Bike to School Day (May 10th). There’s also an invitation to a Bureau of Transportation Statistics webinar “Behind the Numbers: Exploring Transportation Statistics - Bike Statistics” 1:30pm ET on Tuesday, April 25th (for those looking to kick off Bike Month a little early!).

If you like this guide (or know someone who you think really would), be sure to click on the “Share” tab to forward it along to friends and colleagues.

Happy Trails!

Image showing how to get to VDOT Onesearch
Search over 21 collections at once, or search by category: Business, Engineering, News & Standards.

With so many free and subscription resources to choose from, starting a search can sometimes be overwhelming.  That's why we created VDOT OneSearch.

OneSearch is the VDOT Library’s custom federated search tool that simultaneouslly searches over 21 collections at once, including publicly accessible sites like VDOT's Youtube Channel and VDOT's Flickr Photostream but also every subscription held by VDOT, like: ASCE LibraryASTM CompassKnovelBooks 24x7, the Library Catalog and other key resources.

Don't know where to start?  Only have time to search in one resource?  VDOT OneSearch may be the perfect tool to save your time and focus your results.

Relevant results from multiple resources are quickly found and presented in a "unified" results screen so you don't have the know the ins and outs of a dozen resources.

Plus, OneSearch has beneficial features, like the "Visual Search" tab that helps you pinpoint to most relevant documents for your need.

Here's what Visual Search looks like:

Note: OneSearch is freely accessible, so anyone can use it. However, full-text results returned from subscription resources are only accessible to personnel on the VDOT network or those using a VDOT Virtual Library Card. Fill out this Online Form to get your library card!

Screen capture of the new National Work Zone Awareness Week Guide.

This new guide on National Work Zone Awareness Week 2017 links to a wealth of resources.

Check out the
Library's latest guide on National Work Zone Awareness Week 2017

When we discovered how much information is out there on Work Zone safety (maybe too much!), we built this guide as a special one-stop-shop resource for VDOT employees.

The guide covers both National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 3-7, 2017) and Go Orange Day (VDOT employees are encouraged to support of work zone safety by wearing Orange on Wednesday, April 5th), focusing on History, Education, Training, and Research.

The guide contains links to the latest data, research, videos, training and more, plus handy links back to us if you need access to library collections or services.

The guide speaks for itself, but we do have one request: If you like this guide please click the "Share" tab to forward it friends and colleagues.

And remember "Work Zone Safety Is In Your Hands"

BTW, don't forget to wear orange on April 5th... and if you do, snap a selfie with co-workers and send it to VDOT Communications: VDOTPhotoRequest@vdot.virginia.gov
