Interlibrary Loans (ILL) and Document Deliveries
Interlibrary lending, led by Barb Neyman, helps us locate, acquire, and deliver specialized information to VDOT employees in ways that are more effective than if we were to attempt to acquire, catalog, and store all needed publications. In the past 5 years we have averaged 7 loans, while borrowing an average of 35 items per quarter. Since the pandemic started, we have averaged 23 borrows and filled only 2 requests in five quarters. We hope to increase ILL lending next quarter.
This quarter the library requested and received 17 total items from other libraries. 14 libraries worldwide lent items to our library, 10 of our requests were supplied by academic libraries, 3 from state libraries, and 2 from federal libraries and two from public libraries. Items requested were from libraries in 7 states and the District of Columbia, in addition to items loaned from England and Canada. Of all requests, 4 were filled as hard copy (books/reports) and 13 as photocopy/digital/ fax (articles, chapters, excerpts).
Once again this quarter our OCLC lending symbol was deactivated. Because we are temporarily listed as a "non-lender" we did not receive any requests. This is the 4th quarter (since 2006) that we have not filled any requests.
