VTRC Final Report 24-R2: SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS FOR VTRC REPORT NO. 116042, Documentation and Evaluation of ASTM A709 Grade 50CR Steel Bridges on Virginia’s Eastern Shore
These supplemental materials accompany the following publication: Documentation and Evaluation of ASTM A709 Grade 50CR Steel Bridges on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, by Jason T. Provines, P.E., Stephen R. Sharp, Ph.D., P.E., and Audrey K. Mouza. Contents of the file include the following:
- A special provision that addresses materials, handling requirements, and fabrication requirements specific to ASTM A709 Grade 50CR structural steel, formerly referenced as ASTM A1010 Grade 50. References made to AASHTO/AWS D1.5 shall refer to the 2020 publication. References made to AWS D1.6/D1.6M shall refer to the 2017 publication. References to AWS D1.1/D1.1M shall refer to the 2020 publication. Requirements will follow the standard VDOT Specifications for structural steel except as noted below. Dated: October 17, 2023.
- APPENDIX A: Acceptance Test Procedure for ASTM A193 Grade B8 Class 2, 7/8-in Diameter Bolts with a Minimum Clamping Load of 30 kip and Ultimate Tensile Strength of 115 ksi
