Using Microsoft Teams From Home: Step 3: Sign In

This guide shows VDOT employees how to load Microsoft Teams on a personal or "home" computer or other connected device.

Almost there

You will be taken to VITA's sign in page, which looks like this:

VDOT's Okta sign in screen.

Sign in by entering your VDOT e-mail address and your VDOT network password, and clicking the "Sign In" button as shown above. If you want to, you can also select the "Remember me" option for faster sign on later.

If you have SMS Authentication set up on your account, when you enter your VDOT e-mail address and network password you will be prompted for a secondary authentication (through a code texted to your phone) with a screen that looks like this:

Click the "Send code" button.

An SMS text message will be sent to the phone number you registered.  It will contain a 6-digit code.

Enter that code in the box above where it says "Enter Code" and click the "Verify" button to complete your authentication.

The first time you log in you will see the following dialog box, which gives you two options to sign in:

undefined

Option 1: Allow my organization to manage my device
The default option is "Allow my organization to manage my device" and if you are OK with that click the "OK" button.

If you select this option it is the last time you will see this dialog box, because doing so will "register" your computer with the Azure Active Directory, Microsoft's cloud-based identity and access management software, whch installs a certificate on the computer to make you easy to recognize every other time you open Teams from the computer.  In short, selecting this option means you will be remembered and recognized next time you log in to Teams from this device.

Option 2: No, sign in to this app only
You can also select the option "No, sign in to this app only."  Doing so works just as well, however, next time you come back you won't be automatically recognized, and will have to enter your credentials again.

Either way, at this point Microsoft Teams should open up where you last left it, looking something like this:
