Virtual Library Card

The “Virtual Library Card” helps VDOT employees access collections and services remotely. The bar graph (below) shows VLC growth over the past five quarters. This quarter 44 library patrons separated from VDOT and 24 new cardholders were added, for a net loss of 20 accounts and a total of 2,458 VDOT employees who have a card. The pie chart (right, below) shows how accounts were created:

New Cards from Self-Registration (13): Some VDOT employees register themselves online. Library staff verify identities, activate those accounts, and send a welcome message and support materials.
New Cards from Other Requests (11): Cards created for walk-in patrons or patrons who submitted an online request.

Since 2014 we started "onboarded" new employees based on HR data. The library created accounts for new personnel and reached out to them online. In January 2022 onboarding/offboarding efforts were impacted by the implementation of a new Oracle-based Human Capital Management System. We have suspended onboarding since then but we hope to bring it back soon.
