Outreach & Education
The library is now reporting efforts related to outreach and user education. This has been made possible by the contributions of new staffer Amy Skretta, who is working with VDOT HR to get onboarding leads for "high potential" patrons. Each month Amy sends e-mails to targeted groups of new hires based on a screen of 20 core VDOT roles. This quarter she reached out to 216 employees, resulting in the addition of 19 new library card accounts, 13 new subscribers to the library's newsletter Connections, and 13 participants in the library's Virtual Orientation, which is held monthly using Microsoft. Skretta led all three orientations this quarter and created new LibAnswers macros to improve communication.

Library Outreach Is Working
Outreach efforts this quarter connected with 13 distinct roles at VDOT (a total of 19 new VDOT employees with wide-ranging experience levels). Outreach is a time-consuming task for library staff to undertake, and we understand that new employees focused on workplace essentials are thus reluctant to commit to voluntary learning programs. Even a modest response to our "invitations" to patrons to participate in an online orientation, sign up for our newsletter or get a library card is a win.
The result of this quarter's outreach was impressive: 19 requests for cards, 18 new subscribers to the newsletter and 13 participants in our virtual orientation, for a total of 50 patron interactions, about a 23% success rate.
