Compendex: Quick Start Guide: Register

Compendex via the Engineering Village interface is available to all VDOT employees and it does NOT require you to register a personal account to get started!

However, creating a personalized user account is free and fast to do, and that account unlocks some powerful information management tools contained in Engineering Village.

With a personal account, records and searches can be saved, folders for organizing search results can be created, and weekly alerts that send new database records matching saved search queries can be managed. In addition, users with personal accounts can create and save settings for default download preferences and keyword highlighting. All account information remains private and is not shared outside Elsevier.

 

Interested? Follow these steps: 

Step 1: Click the "Create Account" button in the upper right-hand corner. 

 

Step 2: You will see an online registration form that looks like this (right): 

 

Step 3: Enter your e-mail. Be sure to use your VDOT e-mail address!

 

Step 4: Click "Continue" and you will be prompted to enter your first and last name and you will be asked to create a password.

 

Note: If you think you already have an account, you can select the "I already have an account" button at the bottom of the online form. 
 

 

 

 

Sign In: In the upper right-hand corner of Engineering Index you'll see a Sign In button.

 

Clicking the button brings up a screen like the one shown (right). Insert your VDOT e-mail address and click "Continue" and you will be prompted for your password.

 

If you believe you already created an account and have a password (but you can't remember it), you can use the "Forgot password" link, which will e-mail  you a link that can be used to reset your passwords. 

 

 

You can tell that you are logged in to VDOT's subscription with your Engineering Village account by looking in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. 

 

You should see your name and your VDOT e-mail address, as shown to the right.
