Interlibrary Loans (ILL) and Document Deliveries
Interlibrary lending, led by Barb Neyman, helps the library find, acquire, and deliver specialized information to employees in ways that are more effective than if we were to attempt to acquire, catalog, and store all needed publications. Demand for ILL and document delivery remains strong. In the 5 years prior to the pandemic we averaged 7 loans per quarter to other libraries, while borrowing an average of 35 items per quarter. As we pass the 2-year mark in the pandemic, we are averaging just over 20 borrows a quarter. We finally turned our lending symbol back on this quarter and got a surprisingly high 84 requests. We were able to lend 17 items to other libraries, more than twice as much as our 5-year average prior to the pandemic.
This quarter the library requested and received 21 total items from other libraries. 14 libraries loaned items to us, of which 18 were supplied by academic libraries and 3 by state libraries. Items requested were from libraries in 7 U.S. states and Canada. 10 of the requests were filled as hard copy (books/reports) and 11 as photocopy/digital/ fax (articles, chapters, excerpts).
This quarter we received 84 requests from 56 libraries in 29 U.S. states and two foreign countries (Canada and New Zealand). We were able to supply 17 items total: 8 as hard copy and 9 as scans. Of all loans, 13 were to academic libraries, 2 to state libraries and 1 each to a federal and public library.
