Virtual Library Card

The library’s “Virtual Library Card” helps VDOT employees access collections and services remotely. The bar graph below (left) shows cardholder growth during the past five quarters. This quarter 135 library patrons separated from VDOT and 18 new cardholders were added, for a net loss of 117 accounts. The pie chart (right) shows VLC growth this quarter, including how new accounts were created:

New Cards from Onboarding (0): As noted elsewhere, we have temporarily suspended onboarding activity.
New Cards from Self-Registration (14): Some VDOT employees register themselves online. Library staff verify identities, activate those accounts, and send a welcome message and support materials.
New Cards from "Other" Requests (4): These cards are created for walk-in patrons or patrons who submitted an e-mail or online request.

Since 2014 the library has conducted "onboarding" a process where new VDOT employee e-mail addresses are collected from the VDOT Human Resources Org Chart on InsideVDOT and the library creates accounts for those personnel and provides a virtual outreach package. However, last quarter our onboarding (and offboarding) efforts were slowed by data accuracy issues resulting from the implementation of a new Oracle-based Human Capital Management System. In response we suspended onboarding and are focused on offboarding, which is being done "manually" by Barb Neyman until we can resume an automated data pull.
