Library Catalog Quick Start Guide

This is a guide to assist patrons using the VDOT Research Library's online catalog, which helps patrons find and use print and online library resources.

What Does the Virtual Library Card Do?

The library catalog is publicly accessible for anyone to search.  However, VDOT employees with a Virtual Library Card (VLC) can "Sign In" to check out materials with just a few clicks from any connected computer.  This means busy VDOT employees can request books and other library materials remotely, instead of coming in to the library in person.

When a request is made this way, library staff receive a message to locate the item(s), check items out to the requesting patron, and we will ship items for free to any VDOT employee. Employees are responsible for return shipping.

The VLC is also your key to unlocking full-text subscription databases when you are off the VDOT network.  When employees are on the VDOT network they won't typically be prompted for their library credentials when they go to subscription databases, because they will already be recognized as authorized users.

Get a Library Card

The Virtual Library Card is "free" to any active VDOT employee. Registration takes just a few minutes, following these steps:

Step 1. Go to: http://v92004.eos-intl.net/V92004/OPAC/Login.aspx and select "Sign In."

Step 2. From the sign in screen select  "Get a Library Card!" as shown below:

Library card "self register" screen.

Step 3. If you're pretty sure you already have a Library Card, but you can't remember your Library Card Password (which is different from your VDOT network password!), select "Password Reset" as shown above.

Next, fill-in all required fields (marked with the *) and click on the "Register" button:

NOTE: When filling out the form shown above enter your VDOT e-mail address in both the "User ID" field and the "VDOT E-mail" field. When you click "Register" the library will receive your request via e-mail. We will verify your status and activate your account in 1-3 business days and send you a "Welcome!" e-mail message with documentation to help you get started.
