Sometimes you may find that an item has been checked out by another patron, or is temporarily unavailable for other reasons. When this happens you have the option to "Place a Hold" on it online using your Library Card account. Doing so will put you next in line to receive the item when it becomes available. Most library materials are "first come first served" so this can be a very helpful feature for popular titles. Here's how to place a hold:
Step 1: The first steps require you to locate an item you are interested in and determine its availability. Once you've signed in and run a search to locate the item you are interested in, click on the title in the Brief Record of the results list to see the "Full Record" as shown below:
Step 2: In the "Items" box under the Full Record if you see the item's status is "Checked Out" that means someone else is using it. If you select the "Hold Item" icon you'll be placed next in line to use the item.
Step 3: When you place a Hold you will need to select a "Cancel Date." The Cancel Date is a future date of your choosing, after which the Hold will expire in the event the item DOES NOT become available (by that date). Finally, select your preferred delivery method and click the "Hold Item" button.
Step 4: Finally, note your position on the hold list for the item and then click the "Close" button to complete the transaction:
You should receive an automated e-mail confirmation from the library that looks like this:
Selecting the "+" symbol next an item on the My Holds list will display more information about the Hold, including the date it was placed and the date it expires. To cancel a hold, simply check the box next to it and click "Delete" as shown here:
