Interlibrary Loans (ILL) and Document Deliveries
Interlibrary Loans (ILL), coordinated by Barb Neyman, is critical for locating and delivering specialized sources to VDOT employees. These resources are critical to VDOT, but for a myriad of reasons are not owned by the Library. We use OCLC's WorldShare ILL network to borrow and lend worldwide. We were a non-lender for 5 quarters during the worst part of the Pandemic, but restored our lending status long ago. Overall, our fill rate for requests was higher before the Pandemic than after. Today we find we are frequently being asked by libraries to lend "non-lendable" materials like eBooks. This quarter we were asked for 48 items from 36 libraries in 18 states and one foreign country (Canada). We loaned three items. We requested (and received) 25 items from 15 libraries in 7 states, once again making us a net borrower.
This quarter the library requested and received a total of 25 total items from other libraries. 15 libraries supplied items to us, though none were transportation libraries. 24 of our requests were supplied by academic libraries and 1 item came from a federal library. Items requested were sent from libraries in 7 U.S. states. In all, 5 of the requests were filled as hard copy (books/reports) and 20 as photocopy/digital/ fax (articles, chapters, excerpts).
This quarter we received 48 requests from 36 libraries in 18 states and one foreign country (Canada). We loaned a total of 3 items (all in hard copy format) to 2 academic libraries and 1 item to a federal.
